Celia'a Land is the remarkable life story of Celia Mudd, the great aunt of Kentucky's first African-American Senator. Georgia Davis Powers. Celia was born in Nelson County, KY in 1859. Upon receiving her freedom, she chose to remain with the Lancaster family, who had once owned her. Controversy brewed when Sam Lancaster died and left Celia the family's 840 acre farm. Sam's bitter brother, Robert contested the will although he had sold his portion of the farm to Sam.
