Readers learn about Spike from a TV Host who is interviewing her, from Spike herself and from one of the children who joins them in the interview. Amazing facts about Spike are added to by hilarious fictitious events created by the author. The story is all dialogue, and can be performed by three actors. The front material in this book lists the information about Spike that is true under Nonfiction, and the material that is not true under Realistic Fiction and Fantasy.

The Journey of the Little Red Boat is based on an actual incident in which a little red boat broke away from its mooring, floated down the tidal Medomak River near the coast of Maine, and was recovered by the author near the village of Medomak. From its happy home, the little red boat is driven by rain, wind and tide on a journey down river. It has several emotional encounters with rocks, sailboats, a seal and cormorant birds. Finally the little red boat drifts into a cove where it is discovered and cared for by a little girl and her grandparents and finds a happy home once again.
