The glossy colour photographs collected in this travelogue demonstrate, aside from the photographers hallmark eye for detail, a maturing vision and sensitivity that may deservedly be called monumental.

A younger generation of Korean artists have been emerging over recent years with new forms of expression that reflect an understanding of issues relevant to the rest of the art world, yet with a unique Korean sensibility. Published to coincide with an exhibition carrying the same title at the Marugame Genichiro-Inokuma Museum of Contemporary Art, this book surveys the works of 15 artists, including Yee Sookyung, Kim Dokyun, Yoon Jeongmee, Won Seoungwon, Ji Yongho, MeeNa Park and Lee JIhyun. All are introduced through colour images of a selection of recent works and accompanied by several essays, biographic notes and short written introductions about each artists practice.

Double Fantasy: Korean Contemporary Art

Nara is renowned for his love of Manga and Pop Art, yet a 2007 residency in Shigaraki a centre of Japanese ceramics led him to an unexpected new medium: clay. Exhibited at Tokyo's Tomio Koyama Gallery, 161 Nara ceramics are presented in this book, photographed for large format by friend and collaborator Chie Morimoto. Hand-painted and made with traditional pottery wheels, these bowls, vases and plates then break with the past; irreverent eyes, faces and texts are everywhere, epitomising Nara's key contrasts of innocence and malice, playfulness and hostility.

They have a variety of expressions: some appear defiant and aggressive while others seem melancholic or contemplative. Behind their outwardly cute appearance lies the suggestion of a strong will and inexplicable emotions, reminders of the depth of human psychology within the deceptively simple subject matter.
