<p>Chaim Soutine (1894-1944), a Lithuanian painter, Parisian by adoption, is a legendary member of the movement art history dubbed the Ecole de Paris. It indicates both a style (an expressionist heightening of forms and colours firmly bound to figuration) and a group of artists who immigrated to Paris in the early twentieth century, and suits Soutine perfectly. Intimamente legato alla figura di papa Paolo III Farnese, edificato e decorato per esaltare la gloria della famiglia, il palazzo riunisce i più grandi artisti del Cinquecento e rappresenta, quindi, una tappa irrinunciabile della storia dell'arte.È stato costruito tra il 1513 e il 1589 da quattro dei più illustri architetti, Antonio da Sangallo il giovane, Michelangelo,Vignola e Guglielmo della Porta.La decorazione interna è opera dei più grandi pittori italiani, Daniele da Volterra, Salviati, Zuccari, e infine il Carracci, che ha donato a Roma alcuni dei suoi affreschi più belli, in particolare la celebre Galleria.Palazzo Farnese è sede dell'Ambasciata di Francia dal 1874 e dell'Ecole Française di Roma dal 1875. Solo alcune stanze sono accessibili alle sei visite guidate settimanali in francese e in italiano proposte dall'Ambasciata e solo su prenotazione; tuttavia non si riesce a soddisfare la grandissima richiesta del pubblico.
