"In the Beginning when nothing was created yet, God created NUMBER ... " Classical Occultism - i.e. Spiritual Tradition - very often rests on imitation of old usages and forgotten rituals - or on texts and images the inner (i.e. esoteric) content of which is recognized only by Initiates. Das Corpus Hermeticum ist eines der ältesten und unter Kennern angesehensten Dokumente Philosophie: Es überliefert das zeitlose Eingeweihten-Wissen in Gesprächen über Gott als Schöpfer, über die Welt als Schöpfung, und über ihre Geschöpfe - vor allem über das kosmische Menschenschicksal und kosmische Menschen-Verantwortung. Als erste Zeit der Redaktion des Corpus Hermeticum gilt das Alexandria von ca. 150 v. Chr. bis ca. 250 n.Chr. - Das ist die Zeit der Vermischung und Harmonisierung orientalischer, babylonischer, hebräisch-chaldäischer, hellenistischer und neuplatonischer Lehr-Elemente. - Sogar Anklänge an Lao-Dse und an die Upanishaden sind vorhanden: In seinen Anmerkungen weist der Herausgeber genauer darauf hin. Der Text des Corpus Hermeticum - ursprünglich griechisch - wurde 1463 durch den florentinischen Eingeweihten Marsilio Ficino ins Lateinische übersetzt und 1471 zum ersten Mal so gedruckt. Moderne Wissenschaft betrachtet es z.T. als Werk der christlichen Patristik und verkennt seinen Wert für die alte Mysterien-Tradition. Großzügige Übersetzer vereinfachten den Text und übersahen dessen präzise und z.T. verblüffenden stilistischen Nuancen. Die gegenwärtige Übersetzung des als solcher bekannten lateinischen Texts folgt auch den schwerst-übersetzbaren sprachlichen Feinheiten nach bestem Können genau wörtlich. Sie ist angenehm zu lesen - auch weil darauf geachtet wurde, möglichst jedes Fremdwort und sogar längst lateinische Begriffe zu vermeiden.
