The works of art gathered by Spaniards Juan Abelló and Anna Gamazon since the 1980s constitute one of the most important private collections in the world. 
Fascinated by history and art, the couple has built a collection whose marked personality is based on the beauty and quality of its pieces. It is a broad collection, with works created by both Spanish and international artists over a period of five hundred years from the fifteenth to the twentieth centuries. By concentrating particularly on artists underrepresented in Spain's public and private collections, the Abelló family has both pioneered the appreciation of foreign artists and contributed to a notable recovery of their own country's artistic heritage.

The Meadows Museum at Southern Methodist University is honored to offer viewers in the United States their first opportunity to contemplate masterpieces from the leading historic private art collection in Spain. The treasures of the Alba family represent more than five hundred years of patronage and collecting of European art of the highest quality and importance. One hundred thirty-eight exemplary objects from these vast holdings will be presented in Dallas and then travel to the Frist Center for the Visual Arts in Nashville.
Coinciding with the Meadows Museum's golden anniversary, the exhibition Treasures from the House of Alba: 500 Years of Art and Collecting and this companion publication trace the history of the Alba family from the fifteenth century through the present day through the works they collected. The book explores the family's wealth of paintings, sculptures, furniture, tapestries, and other objects, as well as the Alba archives and library. The stature of the painting collection is clear from the artists represented in the exhibition, among them Fra Angelico, Titian, Rubens, Mengs, Goya, Ingres, Sorolla, and Renoir. The relationship of the Alba legacy to America is highlighted in decorative objects and in a selection of documents from the Alba library related to Columbus and his voyages.
The ten essays in this publication shed light on the dynasty's particular interest in collecting tapestries; its patronage of writers such as Garcilaso de la Vega; the influence of Eugenia de Montijo, empress of France, who was directly related to the Alba family; the pivotal roles of the Seventeenth Duke of Alba and his daughter, the Eighteenth Duchess, in the twentieth century, both of them keenly engaged with the art of their time; and the three palaces Liria, Monterrey, and Las Dueñas that house much of the collection today. Finally, there is one essay covering the biographical life of the Albas as well as an article that discusses their artistic legacy. As a result, the book provides an in-depth study of the rich life and cultural achievements of this legendary dynasty that still lives strong today.

Archer M. Huntington (1870-1955), son of one of the wealthiest men in America, decided that his passion for Spain had to be reflected by creating a museum and a library that would make his knowledge of Spanish art and culture available to his compatriots and that is how he founded in 1904 The Hispanic Society of America in New York. A section of more than two hundred of these treasures is being presented at important museums, such as the Museo del Prado (Madrid), el Palacio de Bellas Artes (Mexico City), and the Albuquerque, Cincinnati and Houston museums in the United States. This volume gathers the content of this great exhibition including a detailed file of each piece and an introductory essay telling the story of the Hispanic Society's creation and the scope of its collections.

•Focuses on Salvador Dalí's influences, iconography, technique, and materials throughout the most productive period of his career •Published to accompany an exhibition at the Meadows Museum, Dallas, from September to December 2018 Research undertaken upon the Meadows Museum's 2014 acquisition of Salvador Dalí's painting The Fish Man (L'homme poisson, 1930) opened doors to areas within Dalí's 1930s oeuvre worthy of further study; foremost among them, Dalí's propensity for painting on a small scale. Dalí: Poetics of the Small, 1929-1936, is the first exhibition on the artist to focus solely on his small-format works. While examples of small-format paintings are present throughout Dalí's career, the eight years under examination - 1929 to 1936, arguably the apex of Dalí's artistic career - witnessed sustained attention to this format; nearly half of the approximately 200 known paintings completed by the artist during this time measure 13 inches or smaller. This exhibition, which brings together a representative selection of small-format paintings from this period, considers the potential sources of inspiration for these minute masterpieces. Of particular interest is Dalí's early, and lasting, admiration for the work of Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675). Photography, as well as photomontage and collage, are also considered as influences. The project also includes a technical study of a selection of these paintings by Claire Barry, director of conservation at the Kimbell Art Museum, which continues the work she first performed on The Fish Man three years ago. This research aims to provide a better understanding of Dalí's artistic technique and working process during the 1930s, which is considered in correlation to the artist's small-format paintings. Dali: Poetics of the Small, 1929-1936

•Published to accompany an exhibition at the San Diego Museum of Art from 18 May, 2019 to September 2, 2019 Spain's Golden Age may be defined as the extraordinary moment when the visual arts, architecture, literature, and music all reached unprecedented heights. Featuring a diverse selection of more than 100 outstanding works produced by leading artists from Spain and its global territories, Art &amp; Empire: The Golden Age of Spain is the first exhibition in the United States (at the San Diego Museum of Art) to expand the notion of 'Golden Age' to include the Hispanic world beyond the shores of the Iberian Peninsula. Such far-flung Spanish-controlled centers as Antwerp, Naples, Mexico, Lima, and the Philippines are represented by paintings, sculpture and decorative arts of astounding quality and variety from the pivotal years of about 1660 to 1750. Artists featured in the exhibition include Diego Velázquez, Peter Paul Rubens, Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, Francisco de Zurbarán, Jusepe de Ribera, El Greco, Juan de Valdés Leal, Juan Sánchez Cotán, and many more. This exhibition also marks the first time in the Museum's history that all five of the Spanish masters represented on the Museum's building façade Velázquez, Murillo, Zurbarán, Ribera and El Greco will be shown together at the Museum. This first volume is dedicated to the collection of the Sorolla Museum in Madrid, Spain</li></ul>Joaquin Sorolla's catalogue raisonné is the culmination of a project that was initiated by Francisco Pons-Sorolla and Blanca Pons-Sorolla, which assembles all the work of the painter known so far (over 4,000 works). The aim of this project is the publication of five volumes in which the works by Joaquin Sorolla Bastida (1863-1923) will be presented by themes: 1. Sorolla Museum; 2. The Sea and the Beach; 3. Portraits; 4. Landscapes; 5. Composition Works. Within these themes, the works will be presented chronologically, so that the evolution of the painter can be observed in each case. This first volume of the catalogue is dedicated to the collection of the Sorolla Museum, which houses the largest collection of the artist's works. It displays a comprehensive panorama of the painter's oeuvre through 1,300 pieces. The project is currently being financed by the Sorolla Museum Foundation, and is being carried out by Blanca Pons-Sorolla, with the collaboration of Teresa Jiménez-Landi and Mónica Rodríguez Subirana. Since the beginning of the project in 1987, a profoundly better understanding of Sorolla's work has been achieved.
