Located in Houston's Third Ward—a historic African-American neighborhood—Project Row Houses (PRH) is a community platform that enriches lives through art with an emphasis on cultural identity and its impact on the urban landscape. Since its inception in 1993, PRH has fostered a positive, creative environment in the community by infusing it with art and creativity and creating sustainable opportunities for artists, mothers, entrepreneurs, and residents. Today the PRH site encompasses five city blocks and houses thirty-nine structures that serve as home base to a variety of community-enriching initiatives, art programs, and neighborhood development activities.Collective Creative Actions: Project Row Houses at 25 highlights the history of the Third Ward neighborhood, PRH's role in its development over the past quarter-century, and the idea of social art practice from the perspective of PRH's five pillars: art and creativity; education; social safety net; good and relevant architecture; and economic sustainability. It also includes scholarly essays; a selection of impactful moments that have shaped the organization’s work; documentation of the hundreds of people who have participated in PRH programs; and numerous photographs. Krieger examines the entrepeneur in terms of modes and ideal figures drawn from religion and classical studies. In so doing, he provides a means or vocabulary with which entrepreneurs can articulate their experience of risk, commitment, and judgment. In addition, by establishing a comparison between the entrepreneur and the figures he utilizes from religious and classical literature, Krieger generates surprising new ways to look at the careers of such traditional figures as St. Augustine, Moses, Oedipus, Antigone, and the characters of Shakespeare’s The Tempest. Both an exercise in the humanities and in the pragmatic world of business, Krieger’s work offers an intriguing methodology for how humanistic learning can be applied to the real world concerns of the entrepreneur. This work responds to a renewed emphasis on teaching in the academy. Written from the perspective of a classroom teacher, it is a practical application of the principles behind the critical thinking movement to the study of religion. Emphasizing that the acquisition of critical thinking depends less on what is taught than on how it is taught, the author presents concrete examples from his own experience to illustrate a student-centered approach to teaching. By demonstrating how the study of religion contributes to the development of critical thinking—through the acquistion of problem-solving, decision-making, and metacognitive skills—Penaskovic suggests its value to a broader liberal arts curriculum as well. Both a theoretical view of critical thinking and a nuts-and-bolts manual on how it can be used and assessed in the classroom, this work will challenge new and veteran teachers alike to reexamine and renew what the do in the classroom.

The great amount of research which has appeared in the journal, "American Literature," since 1949 has made a revision and an enlargement of the previous Analytical Index, published in 1954, imperative.  The present volume extends the coverage another ten years and, by combining the new material with the former index, provides an analysis of the first thirty volumes of the journal, beginning with 1929.Since the magazine has been from its beginning the chief repository of research in the field and the principal medium for scholarly reviews, an analysis of this material provides, in essence, a working bibliography for the serious student of American culture form 1929 to 1959.  Consequently, care has been taken to expand the already large number of cross-references so that material not clearly indicated by the titles of articles or books may be identified.
