Die internationale Erforschung der deutschsprachigen Literatur jüdischer Autorinnen und Autoren (neben den deutschsprachigen Ländern vor allem USA, Israel, England und Frankreich) wurde insbesondere seit den 1970er Jahren intensiviert. Dabei stehen einzelne Persönlichkeiten, Epochen, Gattungen, Medien oder Einzelprobleme im Vordergrund. Bis heute fehlt allerdings eine Darstellung, in der die Erträge der Forschung zum Gesamtgebiet bis in die Gegenwart zusammengefasst und bewertet werden. Diese Lücke schließt das vorliegende Handbuch, das in drei Teile gegliedert ist. In Teil 1 steht die geschichtliche Entwicklung der deutsch-jüdischen Literatur vom 18. Jahrhundert bis zur Gegenwart im Mittelpunkt, ergänzt durch ein vorangestelltes Kapitel zur Situation im Mittelalter und der Frühen Neuzeit. Dabei geht es um prinzipielle Fragen jüdisch-religiöser und jüdisch-kultureller Positionen, soweit sie für die deutsch-jüdische Literatur relevant sind, sowie um die Auseinandersetzung mit antijüdischen resp. antisemitischen Strömungen in der deutschen Gesellschaft und ihren Niederschlag in der deutschen Literatur. Jüdische Tradition und jüdische Existenz bilden die leitenden Gesichtspunkte für die Untersuchung bis in die Gegenwart. Teil 2 nimmt wesentliche Orte und Räume der Herausbildung deutsch-jüdischer Literatur bzw. des Einflusses auf sie in den Blick (Berlin, Wien, Prag, Czernowitz, das jiddischsprachige Osteuropa). Dadurch wird die europäische Dimension des Gegenstandsbereichs deutlich. In Teil 3 werden Genres, Medien und kulturelle Institutionen dargestellt, die für die deutsch-jüdische Literatur prägend sind - historischer Roman, Ghettoliteratur, Autobiographie oder religiöse Literatur, Kinder- und Jugendliteratur, Drama und Theater, Film, Presse, Verlage, Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaft, aber auch Witz oder Aggada als prägende Formen jüdischer Geistigkeit.

Nazi Crimes against Jews and German Post-War Justice: The West German Judicial System During Allied Occupation (1945–1949) (New Perspectives on Modern Jewish History, 3)

While the International Military Tribunal and the subsequent American Military Tribunals at Nuremberg dealt with a variety of Nazi crimes, these courts did not consider themselves cognizant in adjudicating wrongdoings against those who lost German citizenship based on the so-called "Nuremberg laws," such as Germany's Jews. Until recently, scholarship failed to explore this task of the German judiciary in more detail. Edith Raim fills this gap by showing the extent of the crimes committed against Jews beyond the traditionally known facts and by elucidating how the West German administration of justice was reconstructed under Allied supervision.

Im Jahr 2013 jährte sich zum 100. Mal der "Freideutsche Jugendtag" auf dem Hohen Meißner. Am Rande dieses historischen Treffens, das als erste große Manifestation der "Deutschen Jugendbewegung" gilt, kam es zu antisemitischen Ausfällen. In der Folge entstand erstmals ein "völkischer Flügel" der Jugendbewegung. Nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg gerieten weite Teile der Jugendbewegung, die sich nun als "Bündische Jugend" begriff, in nationalistisches Fahrwasser und ließen sich für rechtsextreme Politik mobilisieren. 1933 in die Illegalität gezwungen, wandte sich die Mehrheit der seit 1945 wieder- oder neubegründeten Bünde und Verbände zwar der demokratischen Gesellschaft zu, rechtsextreme Jugendgruppen und Publizisten versuchten aber wiederholt, das jugendbewegte Erbe zu vereinnahmen. Der Sammelband wird das Spannungsfeld zwischen Jugendbewegung, Nationalismus und Antisemitismus ausleuchten, wobei erstmals auch jüngere bis jüngste Erscheinungen in den Blick genommen werden.

Military cemeteries are one of the most prominent cultural landscapes of Israel. Their story reflects largely the main social processes that Israeli society has been undergoing since the War of Independence (1948)until today. Until the end of the 1970s, the military tombstones and their surroundings were uniform and equal, according to rules set by the State. However, since the 1980s families of the fallen soldiers started to add on the tombstone personal expressions, as well as personal objects, photographs, military artifacts etc. Thus the military tombstone and the Israeli military cemetery became one of the expressions of the dramatic transformation, from a society which emphasized the importance of the collective, to a society which intensifies the significance of the individual. The book is based on many archival documents, as well as interviews and photographs, all of which shed light on one of the most sensitive issues in Israeli society and express its importance as a central component of Israeli identity.
