The fundamental differences between men and women and their symbiosis, the effects of genetics, choice, luck, and fate are examined against a backdrop of the threat posed by the cold war and the problems of life in general.  Heartbeat is a humorous yet serious look at the many twists and turns experienced by most people as they navigate their lives.
