He proves for himself that the Indians love their children just as white folks love theirs, and he attempts to show that through education, kindness, and fair play all peoples can live together peaceably.His life filled with excitement after leaving the Phelps plantation, Huck eventually marries and settles down on a beautiful ranch in Idaho's Wind River Country, where he maintains close relations with his Indian friends and often provides them with produce from his ranch. He also makes a couple trips back to his old home in St. Petersburg, Missouri and stays in touch with his childhood friend Tom Sawyer and his pal Jim, who in the meantime has located his wife Ruby and their children. Eighty acres of hills with grassy valleys and small spring fed streams, a three bedroom rustic home and a bunk bed loft for the four grandchildren. Assistant director of the DEA was a very tiring and stressful job for the fifty-seven year old University of Texas grad and after ten years under the gun, he was wearing down fast. It showed in his face, lined with subtle wrinkles etched there by the constant grimace he couldn't seem to shake. Yet, he had a disarming smile with nearly perfect teeth, but it was only apparent on rare occasions at work. He was suddenly shaken by the intercom buzzing on his desk. "Mr. Carson, it's your wife and she is very upset," said his secretary. Grabbing the phone, his mind raced, trying to visualize what could be wrong.

Tom McCammon, a Flight Engineer on a C-130, is in a position he has dreamed of since he was a little boy going to a one-room county school. His lifelong desire to fly started when he watched the planes of WWII era fly their training missions above him. There was little hope that he would ever achieve his secret goal, it was just a little boy's dream. Dropping out of college, Tom enlisted in the Air Force, worked hard to reach the unreachable and now he sat in the cockpit of his dreams. Though it didn't turn out to be exactly like his dreams, it was a job that he thoroughly enjoyed, and he became proficient in doing it. In the time he spent in Vietnam, things got completely out of hand, and there was nothing he could do about it. He was forced to fly a plane for which he wasn't qualified. He had to go against his own firm conviction of never jumping out of a perfectly serviceable aircraft. And on the way down, he got shot! This certainly wasn't in his master plan. His commanding officer is obviously out to get someone, and Tom happens to be that someone. No one wants to listen to his side of the story. But the wheels of justice are turning, ever so slowly, and Tom finally gets his reward, as well as his revenge.
