Compiled by Bruce Laverty and Erin Kuykendall (Athenaeum of Philadelphia)Illustrated paperback. Catalog of the Sept. 19-Nov. 11, 2011 exhibition. The Eli P. Zebooker Collection is an exemplary group of 18th and 19th century materials with a particularly strong focus on the geography and built environment of Greater Philadelphia. Donated to the Athenaeum in October 2010, it consists of 127 items including 62 books, 33 maps, 30 prints, one newspaper and one set of commemorative postage stamps. It includes materials that range in date from 1750 through 1979, although the bulk of the collection predates 1900. Philadelphia Places on Paper includes 49 items from the Zebooker Collection.

Victorian Gothic & Renaissance Revival Furniture: Two Victorian Pattern Books. This volume contains two books of furniture designs which were first published in 1868. The titles are Gothic Album for Cabinet Makers and Cabinet Maker's Album of Furniture, both of which were published by Philadelphia industrial publisher Henry Carey Baird. They contain high quality b&w plates of furniture designs.

The Athenæum of Philadelphia sponsored three competitions for a building to house its growing library in the 1830s and 1840s. Few American structures of that period are so richly documented or can claim as competitors such early 19th-century masters as William Strickland, John Haviland, Napoleon LeBrun, Thomas Ustick Walter, Thomas S. Stewart, and John Notman--and have their drawings survive.

Robert Smith was the most important and influential architect-builder in the American colonies. His major buildings were ornaments of Philadelphia, where he lived. But his reputation also brought him commissions from as far away as Carlisle, Pennsylvania, Shrewsbury, New Jersey, and Williamsburg, Virginia. Among his accomplishments were the steeple of Christ Church (1753-54), St. Peter's Church (1758-61), The Walnut Street Jail (1773-74), and Benjamin Franklin's House (1763-65).
