This series of essays inquires into the nature of music, the relations between sound, imagination and structures of social coordination and interaction in the putting together of music. The notion of musical composition proposed here expands from the foundational act of choosing among sounds to consider the varying contexts within which this may happen and their implications for both form and listening.
