Thy Faith Hath Made Thee Whole: The Integrity Years (1946-1956) (Collected Works)

Thy Faith Hath Made Thee Whole includes all of the articles Carol Jackson Robinson (1911-2002) wrote for Integrity, the magazine she co-founded with Ed Willock and others in 1946. A collection of many of her articles was published by The Angelus Press in the book, My Life with Thomas Aquinas, in two editions (1992 & 1995). This volume not only includes all of her articles for Integrity but also all her book reviews and editorials (October 1951-March 1952). The preface has been taken from an article she wrote in 1962 in which she reflects on her work as editor of Integrity. In the preface, she stated: "...we were essentially right all the way across the board, but these are no longer burning issues." We beg to differ and believe that many of the issues she raises in this book are still of concern for any thinking Catholic, so much has the world been taken in by a technocratic, liberal, impersonal, and un-Christian spirit. For Carol Robinson, mammon had replaced what should be the true object of our love and worship. As rational creatures we have as a natural end the perfection of our souls, and as baptized Christians, the Beatific Vision. Our lives are not meant to be lived on the purely natural level but on one which takes cognizance of grace. It is grace that will re-orient our lives towards God and, as a consequence, will re-orient the social order. Our priorities no longer lie where they should.

The Pearl of Great Price: Pius VI & the Sack of Rome

In 1797, Revolutionary France, with the dynamic young General Bonaparte in command of its armies, set upon the conquest of Europe, both by taking territory and by spreading the new ideology. Pope Pius VI, though firmly opposed to the Revolution, nonetheless thought he had spared Rome from its march by granting Napoleon control over the papal lands in Tuscany, where the popes had reigned for a millennium. But the accidental death of a French general, living in Rome at the residence of the French ambassador, Napoleon's own brother, gave the Revolutionary government at Paris the excuse it needed to invade the Eternal City. This is the story of the sack of Rome, and the actual and figurative siege of the Church at the hands of the Revolution, which sought to make Pius VI the last of his line--the Last Pope.

With Latin in the Service of the Popes: The Memoirs of Antonio Cardinal Bacci (1885‒1971)

Antonio Bacci was rector of the archdiocesan seminary of Florence when his exceptional knowledge of Latin caused him to be summoned to Rome in 1922 to join the office of the Secretary of State as an assistant, first to Aurelio Galli and then to Nicola Sebastiani, the chief Latinists of the Holy See. Bacci succeeded Sebastiani as Secretary of Briefs to Princes upon the latter's death in 1931. In the first half of the memoirs here translated, Bacci discusses his relationship with Popes Pius XI, Pius XII, John XXIII, and Paul VI during the period 1931&#8210;1964. After these reminiscences, the Cardinal explains, in the second half of the book, the reasons why the Catholic Church must maintain the Latin language as its official language, addressing all the while the objections that were being raised at that time, when the Second Vatican Ecumenical Council was in full swing. He poses and answers the question whether it is at all possible that even the Church should now repudiate or abandon Latin, which, together with Greek, is the natural womb of our civilization and of our literatures and is still the sole linguistic bond among cultured people amidst such a variety of tongues.

When Ildefonso Schuster (1880-1954) transformed his copious and insightful lecture notes on the Roman liturgy into the five volumes of Liber Sacramentorum-known to us in English as The Sacramentary, and presented here for the first time in a modern reprint-he stated his purpose: "sharing with devout and studious souls, especially among my brother priests, whatever sentiments of faith and reverence Our Lord may have deigned to grant me, His unworthy servant, in the course of my daily meditation on the Roman Missal." The work is neither "exclusively for the learned," nor "a mere manual of piety"; the author approaches his subject as a scholar and a teacher, but also "with the fearful reverence of the believer."
