<p>St. Louis streetcars served the city from 1859 until 1966, when the last car ran from downtown to Suburban Gardens, Wellston along Olive Street and the Hodiamont right-of-way, Horse and cable cars were used at first but they were swept away in the 1890s by the electric cars. By World War Um the city and its suburbs were connected by a huge network of lines that stimulated the growth f the suburbs. This book provides a history of the last forty years of the St. Louis streetcar system and how it was replaced by buses and eventually private automobiles. 52 pages.</p>
