<p>Verborgen achter de statige Amsterdamse grachtengevels heersen het groen en de stilte. Bij de aanleg van de grachtengordel in de zeventiende eeuw, golden voor de tuinen strenge regels, keuren genoemd, die bebouwing en opsplitsing verboden. Na een periode van verwaarlozing, staat de grachtentuin de laatste jaren weer volop in de belangstelling. Dit monument in boekvorm is een initiatief van de Stichting de Amsterdamse Grachten-tuin. Fotograaf Harold Strak heeft de grachten-tuinen een jaar lang in alle seizoenen op beeld vastgelegd. Het essay is van kunsthistoricus Koen Kleijn en auteur Renate Dorrestein zorgt voor een puntig en vermakelijk capriccio.</p>
