"Groanings from the Desert" by Mexico- EstadounidenseAlma Cardenas is a collection of English & Spanish teo-poemas, prayers, and thoughts that invite you into her pain, joy, hopes, and dreams. The pages are a sacred place that hold pieces of Alma that have been scary to share, but deadlier to think that she is alone and keep them to herself. They are a counter cultural response to her experience of navigating toxic mindsets and systems of her faith community and culture, and brings to life truths which have set her free. They were written between February and October of the year 2020. Writing them has released her voice in way's she never knew was in her, which in turn has allowed her to heal and step into being fully her. This book is especially for youth, young adults, and women of color, but also for the parents, mentors, pastors, madrinas, and padrinoswho are walking alongside them. May you always have people around you who create spaces that encourage you to speak, dream, and be unapologetically you.

This book is for anyone who has struggled with the enduring pain of a broken heart and the burden of a million what-ifs. Cynthia J. Villa is a genderqueer, Mexican American poet, and writer from Wilmington, California. As a child, she lived in Michoacán, Mexico, with her parents and two brothers. Upon her uneasy return to el Norte and her struggles with the cultural clash, she eventually learned to exist in-between two languages. Yearning to alleviate the grief, heartache, and ambiguity caused by her mother's unpredictable death became the pivotal point that invited her to submerge in the mythical world of poetry, where time stood still. Eventually, her writings became a proclamation of self-healing. Her poetry now immerses in themes of Love, Loss, Heartache, Healing, and Self-Empowerment. She has exhibited her work under the pen name, cjLeubh, on social platforms. Some of her most recent work was featured in Alegria Magazine's, The Latinx Poetry Project. As a primary witness of the effects of the struggles of cultural and language barriers and the lack of resources and representation of people of color in low-income communities, she's been inspired to pursue a legal career. Whether it is in immigration law or criminal law, she aspires to become a lawyer not to punish people but to ensure the law protects the people it is meant to protect. Alejandra Ramos Gomez is a poet, writer, and bilingual educator from Juarez, Chihuahua. Her experiences growing up on the U.S.- Mexico border, where femicides occur frequently, motivated her to use her voice to demand justice.

Laura Serratos is a Mexican American English Language Arts teacher, writer, author, and poet in Northwest Indiana. In 2003, Laura earned a B.A. in English and an M.Ed. in School Administration from Purdue University Calumet where she launched a website dedicated to highlighting the creative works of women in the arts. After spending some time as a substitute teacher, she received a Master of Arts in Teaching at Calumet College of St. Joseph. She has spent ten years in education where she has been touched tremendously by the lives and stories of her students who come from all walks of life, which often inspire her written work. At a very young age, Laura knew that one day she would see her name in the title of her own book. Many weekends were spent at her grandparent's home in the South Chicago neighborhood where her imagination took off. Armed with paper, markers, and a stapler, the seed of authorship was planted in the heart of a young eight year old girl. Laura dreamed of one day telling her story of love, laughter, and the sometimes hard realities of life. A bit of this dream has been fulfilled with an original piece published within a student anthology at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she completed some undergraduate work. Laura Serratos lives in Schererville, Indiana with her husband, four children, baby Jude and furbabies, Penny and Reader. When she is not teaching and writing, you could find her engrossed in poetry, fiction or self-help. More important hobbies include travelling to discover food and culture, wishing upon a star, and staring out of the window daydreaming about rainbows and butterflies.

It is my dream and hope that this baking book will be for all readers 
to enjoy. A guide for you to create the perfect sweet treat that you are trying to make for a loved one, a special event (birthday party, bridal shower, graduation, baby shower, etc.), or just to enjoy on a quiet Friday night at home. I believe that the secret of good baking is a good combination of plenty of eggs, milk, butter, cream and lots of love. Yes, my number one ingredient, whether you are baking or cooking, is making it with a lot of passion and love. People, who love to bake and who always have a sweet tooth, are always looking for new recipes.\nThe love for baking comes from my ancestors. When I started compiling information for my book, I interviewed both of my grandmothers and I discovered so much information about where my family came from. Baking was a passion for my maternal grandfather, Jose. And I remember eating my paternal great-grandmother Rufina's famous sugar cookies and yeast bread.The love for baking goes back as far as when my maternal great-grandfather and grandfather worked at a family bakery from a very young age in zacoalco de Torres, Jalisco Mexico. Also, my aunt Lupe and uncle Chuy onced owned several bakeries in Los Angeles, CA of whom I was always fond of. 
Both my parents love to cook and bake as well, and our family events are always surrounded by food. The minute we plan a gathering the first question is always, "What will the menu be?" 
I initially got my start in baking when my youngest son turned three years old, and I was planning his birthday party. I was sure that I was going 
to be able to dip an apple in caramel and chocolate with no problem. Piece of cake, right?! Well, not so much. There were a few struggles, and I wish I would have had a baking book about gourmet apples for some guidance and inspiration. Since I couldn't find one, I decided to write one! I had a girlfriend once tell me "Beba, (my nickname) I'm here at Michael's store and saw this book of beautiful dessert tables and I thought of you!" Diana Moreno added this little bright idea in my head that one day I will put a book together like the book she saw at Michael's when she thought of me. I was not sure what the book would be about or how I would even begin the process of writing a book since I was so clueless. It all became a reality when I met my mentor, Davina Ferreira, from Alegria Publishing.
