These sixteen essays on modern Irish prose, poems and plays&nbsp; have been developed from papers delivered at the conference of the International Association for the Study of&nbsp; Irish Literatures, held at Bath Spa University College. Beyond Borders offers an international perspective by bringing together&nbsp; voices from different national cultures and scholarly contexts. CATALYSTICS: Classroom Analytics for Teaching about Social Justice in Higher Learning can serve as the genesis for moving the usual mission statements promulgated by so many universities and colleges from the maintained pontification to the movement of proof. 
We use the word, CATALYSTICS to create a confluence between the terms catalytical and analytics, resulting in our subtitle about classroom instruction with action research for catalytical change. 
 Action research literacy empowers us to do this and it should be used for teaching about social justice. As our new global society continues to struggle with finding answers to complex questions concerning economic decline, racial and religious conflict, health disparities, corporate ethics, global warming, national and global security, technological reliance, educational failure and many other compelling challenges impacting the human condition, the demand to conduct actionable research to resolve real life problems becomes more amplified and the revelations of the research findings become more pronounced to society and the social justice within society. 
Time is of the essence, the greater good is at stake, the bigger picture is losing focus, the larger context is losing meaning, and change must come sooner than later as the world continues to terribly troubled, broadly broken and widely wounded. Integrating action research for social justice in reflective teaching can empower those to lead.

This reference work discusses the origins and development of arms makers of Connecticut from earliest times until the industrialization of the industry in the late 19th and early 20th century. The arms makers and their arms are linked to changes that occurred with rapidity as Connecticut became a major center for weaponry from the Civil War to contemporary times. The focus of the research are the earlier and smaller makers rather than the large industrial companies (like Colt) that flourished during the middle of the 19th century. Guns made in pre-Revolutionary war Connecticut generally fall into one of three categories: fowling pieces, the old name for single barrel shotguns; rifles, which are distinguished by heavier octagonal barrels with spiral rifling hand-cut inside; and single-shot handguns or pistols. Rifles were attractive when there was larger game, such as deer, moose, elk or bear, to be hunted. Fowling pieces served as arms for taking water fowl and small game. Handguns, used mostly to back up long arms, were minimally useful for sporting or hunting and are seen far less often than are shoulder arms. There are probably more New England fowlers known than any other type of American made single barrel shotgun. New England guns vary in design because they were produced by a great number of gunmakers over a longer time period within a larger geographical area. There were fowling pieces made late in the eighteenth century with post-Revolutionary War era British Brown Bess flintlocks as well as an occasional very late club butt fowler originally manufactured with a percussion lock. Connecticut arms had a surprisingly global distribution as early as the late 17th and early 18th century. They were found on pirate ships in the Caribbean , in compounds of African chiefs, on slavers boats, and among Mohawk and Algonquin raiding parties deep in the frontier; they also were used by pioneer farmers and their families for hunting, defense and sport. Connecticut s abundant iron deposits, waterways and forests as well as the colony s practical mindedness all contributed to launching an early and successful small town and village industry. Connecticut artisans, Professor Whisker and Spiker point out, were canny and agile in incorporating features from French, French Canadian and Dutch gunsmiths and in time developed their own special design features both in shotgun, rifle, handgun and musket manufacturing.

This work uses current research data and interviews to present a cogent discussion of strategies and tactics needed to keep the HBCU community a healthy vital component of American educational life. The threats and problems of intuitional life are not glossed over rather they are discussed within the parameters of successful planning and implementation. American Treasures may seem like an unusual title for a book designed to assist traditionally under resourced colleges and universities overcome weaknesses, develop strengths, communicate success, develop capacity, and leverage strengths into competitive advantages, but the authors believe that the title should reflect the underlying premises of the publication and at the same time, counteract the attitudes and perceptions detrimental to our higher education system. As scholars of color they believe America s historically Black universities and colleges (HBCUs) have been, and will continue to be, treasured intellectual capital and cerebral currency in historical and future higher education. Treasure is something which is not only valuable, but is also something highly valued and desired. Treasure, and more accurately, the thrill of the journey that takes antagonists through a gauntlet of emotions, has been at the heart of great works of literature spanning generations from literal treasure hunts in Blackbeard and Treasure Island to the more metaphorical search for treasure in works such as Romeo and Juliet (Love), The Odyssey (Home) and The Invisible Man (Self-Identity). Treasure largely lies in the eye of the beholder and some of the underlying and overarching premises within this work include the following: Institutions of higher learning both take in and enhance treasure (students) and are a treasure in and of themselves Institutions of higher education other than those defined as Ivy League, elite private, or those with substantial endowments and or numerous lucrative grants (i.e. large and well-known state colleges and universities) play a crucial role in the development of human potential, continuation of the most robust economy in history, and search for social equity and justice Finally, while treasure has value and is often desired, it is oft times and hidden and occasionally hidden within plain sight and research shows this is often the case with HBCU entities whether public, private or religious in origin.

Tea Practices in Mongolia is a scholarly monograph based on years of field work in Mongolia as well as original research in Asia, Europe and North America. It is an original and detailed ethnography of tea practices, female power and gendered meaning in Mongolia. It is also a welcome addition to the field by an African scholar of distinction who is one of the few Black African researchers in Central Asia. 
This work makes two major contributions to the field of Mongolian studies and anthropology. This is a first detailed ethnography of tea practices in Mongolia, a country that does not produce tea and yet is a major tea consumer. The book tells the story of what people do with tea in Mongolia. The second contribution of this work is the description of female power and gendered meanings as the experience connected to tea practices. Female power is the experience of impacting on other people s acts from a gendered position of power. Through tea practices, which are ascribed to women, women construct gendered meanings that are a contribution to the cultural system in Mongolia. For a society that is predominantly described as patriarchal, this work brings to shore the experience of a female world of meanings different from the rest and yet that stands in complementarity with it.

The Great War and Memory in Irish Culture, 1918 -2010 (Irish Research)

This book adds a major culture-based study to the field of Irish history. It addresses a topic and touches on themes that continue to be relevant and debated in contemporary Ireland. It makes a major contribution to the New Military History of Ireland and adds the memory of the First World War of one of the small nations that emerged in the wake of that conflict to the numerous memory studies that exist for the primary combatant nations (Britain, France, and Germany). This revised paperback version of the original monograph also includes illustrations of memorial sites in some detail. 
One of the most useful aspects of book is that it gives life to the culture of a minority sub-community in Ireland and addresses the challenges this community faced in order to remain active, and the way that community interacted with the majority of Irish people throughout the twentieth, and into the twenty-first century. Therefore, this project is not simply a snapshot of a specific event in Irish history, but examines the way that the memory of the war and those who retained that memory changed and evolved over the course of a century.

Edward Alleyn was a man of many talents and great energy. He was the actor who created the roles of Tamburlaine, Dr Faustus, and Barabas, the Jew of Malta, in Christopher Marlowe s plays and played in comedies, histories and tragedies by the leading authors of his day. In one week in August 1594, he took the leading part in six different plays. His acting was praised by Queen Elizabeth I herself. From an early age he was determined to make money and became successful in doing so as an impresario managing entertainments including bear and bull baiting and as a dealer in property. He made a fortune and gave it away; the College of God's Gift in Dulwich, which he founded in 1619, is his lasting memorial.
