Gregory Crane was born in 1951 in Bremerton, WA. He received his Bachelors of Fine Arts in 1975 from the University of Utah, Salt Lake City. After completion of his degree, Crane enrolled at The Art Students League in New York City; studying there from 1976 - 1980. After his time at the League, Gregory continued to reside New York City, eventually settling in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY. The Cambodian Journal is a book of drawings that traces artist Valentina DuBasky's journey in Cambodia between 1994, after the cease fire ended the long civil war and established a fragile democracy, and the first Cambodian National Elections in 1998. It is a journey taken among survivors of the Khmer Rouge genocide that claimed over a million and a half lives. Through her artwork, DuBasky bears witness to both the trauma of war and the journey of recovery. The drawings are inspired by Cambodians who shared their stories and by encounters with remarkable people whose efforts make a difference. In 2001, he moved to Rio de Janeiro. Tunga is Brazil's foremost contemporary artist. He has exhibited at the Louvre, the Jeu de Paume and many other museums and galleries worldwide. Vibrant paintings of daylight and moonlight landscapes, figures, and still lifes captivate the eye and spirit in the first publication of Roz Jacobs' work. Covering 10 years during which she began serious exploration of time and memory, many of the paintings in this volume were made in southwestern France. As this rural area has been changing for the past 20 years, Jacobs has been capturing in paint the eternal qualities of the light, air and landscape that attracted the Impressionists and Fauves before her. Grounded in European tradition, she brings her unique tactile approach, creating lush semi-abstract paintings. The paintings reflect a deep understanding of light, space, and composition and are a feast for the senses. Roz Jacobs' recently collaborated with Laurie Weisman to create The Memory Project, a multimedia installation that explores the relationship between loss, memory and the creative process. Jacobs' mother, a Holocaust survivor, narrates the art installation with riveting testimony about her brother and their attempt to escape from the Warsaw Ghetto. The Memory Project is currently touring museums in the US and internationally. Memory Project installation photos together with photos of Jacobs painting accentuate the point that the title of this volume makes-that Jacobs invites the viewer into her process. Jacobs studied with the late Norman Raeben at his Carnegie Hall studio from 1973-1978. Raeben, the youngest son of Sholom Alechem, studied with George Luks and Robert Henri, members of the Ashcan School. Jacobs has also written screenplays, designed sets and written books for children.
