First Things First—What Is FGTeeV?
FGTeeV, also known as The Family Gaming Team, is a YouTube gaming and comedy channel that has become a franchise worth millions of dollars.
As its name indicates, the channel’s content features family gaming videos aimed at children and teenagers, including Let’s Plays, live streams, reviews, reactions, and more. At the center of the content lies FGTeeV Duddy and his family—including his wife and four children.
As of this date, the main FGTeeV channel has 23.5 million subscribers and is the platform’s most-viewed gaming channel. They also have a family vlog channel, a toy one, and the SkylanderBoy AndGirl channel featuring the kids, amassing nearly 40 million subscribers.
The Basics about The FGTeeV Family
FGTeeV’s founders and main driving force are FGTeeV Duddy, whose real name is Vincent Carter, and his wife Samantha Ryan, who goes by Moomy.
Their four children join them and are featured prominently on all channels. The oldest is Alexis “Skylander Girl” Ryan, followed by Michael “Skylander Boy” Ryan, Chase “Lightcore Chase” Ryan, and finally, the youngest boy, Shawn “Funnel Vision” Ryan.
How Old Are The FGTeeV Family?
As of this article’s publication date, FGTeeV Duddy is 49, and Moomy is 45. As the founders of the channel and head of the family, they are the primary content producers.
The children are 18, 15, 12, and 8.
Where Are The FGTeeV Family From?
All members of the famous family are American, and their headquarters are in Charlotte, North Carolina.
What Are The FGTeeV Books All about?
The FGTeeV books are graphic novels featuring a dynamic art style, making it a visual spectacle for kids of all ages. Although the series is meant first and foremost for long-time fans, the stories are charming, wholesome, and engaging enough to attract a general audience.
The plotline of the FGTeeV books follows a standard formula in each volume: the family engages with a specific game, and soon enough, they have to face the challenges of the game in real life—whether it is by being ‘sucked into’ the game’s world, or by the characters escaping from their world.
The family then has to work as a team and use their gaming knowledge to defeat their foes. Along the way, they usually learn an important lesson about themselves or their bond as a family, helping them healthily navigate problems and challenges. It is a mixture of video game references and fun while still portraying the average life of a family in America.
How Many FGTEEV Books Are There?
As of this article’s publishing date, four (4) FGTeeV books are available, with three upcoming ones set to be released within the next few months. However, this number may fall short soon, as there are probably many more in the planning stage.
Every FGTEEV Book in Order
The FGTeeV books do not follow a chronological plotline that requires children to focus on a particular reading order. They tend to be self-contained stories that are easy to read and follow, with only the characters and the videogame-themed premise remaining consistent throughout each book.
These are the books available thus far, organized in chronological order.
Into The Game! (2020)
The very first book published by FGTeeV set the tone for the rest and quickly became a New York Times bestseller.
Within the story, Moomy creates a new game called My Pet Fish. However, Duddy considers it to be uninteresting and a tad bit too boring—at least until both of them end up sucked into its world.
With their parents trapped, Lexi, Mike, Chase, and Shawn must rescue them immediately. The problem? After hopping inside their gaming console, they must navigate—and defeat—countless strange, spooky, or action-packed games until they can find the right one.
FGTeeV Saves the World! (2021)
In the second entry of the series, Duddy and Moomy must accept that time has passed and what they used to know may not be the same anymore.
Duddy is not too happy when he sees his kids playing the remake of an old game that used to be his favorite—mainly because this new version doesn’t live up to the one he knew. As they play, the controller gets damaged, and the family takes a trip to an old relic of the past to get it fixed: the mall.
At the store, the console gets fixed too well—the game characters come to life inside the mall! Can the family confront the past and save the world?
Game Break! (2021)
Game Break is the third published book, but it’s different from the previous two. Rather than a straightforward graphic novel, it is an activity book designed to encourage kids to take a break from video games and exercise their brains in an old-fashioned way.
With beautiful illustrations by Miguel Díaz Rivas, Game Break! features 128 pages of crosswords, puzzles, mazes, connect-the-dots, and many more activities.
The Switcheroo Rescue! (2022)
The Switcheroo Rescue! is the series’ fourth book and third graphic novel. It features Cecil the Gamer Brat, one of the inventive characters developed by the FGTeeV family for the book series.
In this story, Duddz and his frenemy Cecil accidentally hit their heads together, causing them to have a body-switcheroo. Duddz is now trapped in Cecil’s body, while Cecil enjoys all of Duddz’s time-honed gaming skills—and it gets to his head fast.
It’s up to the rest of the FGTeeV family to help Duddz and Cecil regain their bodies—all while fighting a chaos-loving ghost they accidentally set free.
Out of Time! (2023)
In the latest graphic novel, FGTeeV Out of Time, the FGTeeV family must fight time itself to get back in one piece.
When Duddz goes on a gaming binge with his fancy eWatch, things soon turn weird when the family is trapped in the watch, traveling through time and space in a race against the clock. From dinosaurs to knights, they must fix the timeline and return home before it’s too late.
Upcoming FGTeeV Books: What We Know
So far, there have been three announcements for future FGTeeV books. The first one, FGTeeV: Blasts Off!, is set to be released in October 2024, and it’s the next installment of the graphic novel series. A different project, titled FGTeeV Mysteries 1, is meant to come out by March 2025, although not many details have been released.
Finally, FGTeeV: The Official Guidebook will be published on August 13th, 2024. It’s meant to provide a behind-the-scenes look, inside jokes, and detailed information for superfans of the gaming family.
Who Are The FGTeeV Books Meant For?
The target audience is children from elementary to middle school, particularly those passionate about gaming. Each book contains age-appropriate plotlines and lessons while boasting humor that kids will likely find engaging.
Overall, the family focus of the storylines and the whimsical art style and storytelling make the FGTeeV books a lovely bonding opportunity for parents and children, opening a way for them to connect over mutual interests.
