This volume is published in a modern scholarly edition containing an introduction (with sections on biography, Quakerism and Quaker education, eighteenth-century literary Philadelphia, and Wister's literary contributions), a new transcription of the text based on the original manuscript, and comprehensive annotations. It also includes two annotated appendixes of previously unpublished material: the devotional journal that Wister kept from 1796-1797 and a collection of her poetry and prose.
