A history of the Caballo Mountains of New Mexico as seen from the perspective of a treasure hunter. This writing documents the major events surrounding the Caballo Mountains from the Aztecs through the Jesuits and Spanish, then finally the Apache Indians who redeposited much treasure taken from the Spanish during thieir 400 year war against the intruders from Europe. Finally, there were the twentieth century treasure hunters from the early 1900's through modern times. Tales of the Caballos

Oliver Baldwin, recently back from the Barbary Wars, sets sail in the U.S. frigate Chesapeake on a routine patrol. The patrol becomes anything but routine when the ship is confronted by the 50-gun HMS Leopard outside the Virginia Capes. Commodore James Barron refuses the British captain's orders to produce Royal Navy deserters, and the Leopard fires into the American frigate with disastrous results.
