After the longest deliberation in the history of Irish criminal law, Catherine Nevin was convicted of the murder of her husband Tom at Jack White's Inn, County Wicklow, in 1996. The charges against Catherine Nevin were that she had tried repeatedly to induce IRA associates to murder Tom Nevin; that she had had a series of irregular sexual affairs; that she was a bully, a snob, a fantasist; that her marriage was a sham and that she wanted Tom dead so that she could enjoy the full fruits of their business for herself. The author followed the story from the start and was in court throughout the trial. Her understanding of the case allowed her to break the story of Judge Domhnall O Buachalla and the pub licence within days of the guilty verdict.
