The Navarre bible is an edition of Sacred Scripture prepared by the Faculty of Theology of Navarre University. Designed for the general reader, it consists of the New Vulgate, the Revised Standard version, and commentaries. The commentaries provide explanations of the doctrinal and practical meaning of the Scriptural text, drawing on a rich variety of sources: Church documents, the exegesis of Fathers and Doctors, and the works of prominent spiritual writers.

The Navarre Bible New Testament commentaries offer extensive explanations of the meaning of the scriptural text and its implications for everyday life. The commentaries draw on a rich variety of sources - Church documents, the writings of the Fathers and Doctors of the Church, and the work of prominent spiritual writers, particularly Saint Josemaria Escriva, who initiated the Navarre Bible project. The commentary appears on the same page as the Bible text, which is the Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition. Each volume is self-contained with extensive introductions and notes to Old Testament prophecies. The Navarre Bible commentary is considered by many to be the best Catholic commentary on the Bible available today.

This volume contains the full text of the Revised Standard Version edition of these New Testament books with the commentary included in the volumes of Gospels and Acts in the twelve-volume series described in the opposite column. It does not contain the New Vulgate text or general introductory essays of the Standard Edition.

This volume contains the entire New Testament (RSV Catholic Edition) with short introductions to each of the four Gospels, Acts, Letters and Revelation. It is called a 'compact' edition because it runs to 756 pages as distinct from the 2400 pages in the Standard Edition of the Navarre Bible (New Testament in twelve volumes). This Bible's distinguishing feature is its notes/commentaries. In this volume they occupy about the same amount of space as the Biblical text. These notes try to provide doctrinal and ascetical explanations that flow from the biblical text itself and that are in line with the Church's understanding of it.
