Colored enamel was considered one of the most spectacular and expensive decorative materials, on a par with gold and silver. Medieval Russia received the manufacturing techniques from Byzantium together with the name for enamel, finift. This album includes items from the Central Museum of Old Russian Art from the latter half of the 17th to the first half of the 19th centuries: medallions, icons, encolpions, crosses and other church ceremonial items.
