TAO TE KING. El hombre inexperimentado somete su naturaleza a los objetos exteriores, su espíritu se turba, entonces el alma espiritual obedece al alma animal. Lao Tse enseña a los hombres a conservar su espíritu, a conservar su alma sensitiva, a actuar de modo que ambos principios no se separen. Quienes cultivan el Tao, se conducen de modo que el principio espiritual no se escape fuera del alma animal y ésta venga a morir, pues la verdadera inmortalidad se alcanza en la unión de las dos, cuando lo que no puede morir carga en sus espaldas lo perecedero y lo trasciende. En el momento en que el hombre comienza a nacer, se parece a un gran vacío, luego su ser se condensa y toma un cuerpo. Por eso, el que practica el Tao se separa de su cuerpo y de sus exigencias para regresar a su esencia primitiva. El que sigue el Tao no desea estar lleno, se despoja de todo, no deja nada en su interior que pueda atarlo al mundo material. “Todas las cosas del mundo han nacido del ser, pero el ser ha nacido del no ser”. De este modo, el reposo es la base y el comienzo del movimiento. “El no ser atraviesa las cosas impenetrables. Por eso sé que la quietud es útil”. El sabio no actúa, se asimila al Tao, y domina el mundo. El Tao es equiparable al vacío y es el camino, la vía.
