<p>Professor Trapp's concern in these articles is with the impact of the 'Classical Tradition' on European culture, particularly during the 15th-16th centuries. The first articles share a preoccupation with what might be called a learned credulity - a Renaissance romantic notion of comparative philology, and a Renaissance romantic desire to associate itself with every last vestige of antique custom, literature or remains. The studies on Ovid's tomb and Virgil's grave reveal clearly the powerful hold such matters had on the minds and imaginations of generations of scholars. The following section focuses more specifically on Tudor humanism, notably the figures of Thomas More and John Colet, and demonstrates the significance of the culture of the ancient world at a formative period for modern European civilisation.Au cours d'études, le Professeur Trapp s'intéresse à l'impact de la tradition classique sur la culture européenne, en particulier aux XVe et XVIe siècles.
