Sanditon on Reflection

Jane Austen began writing her last novel, Sanditon, in 1817, wrote 12 Chapters then put it aside and with her death the same year, never finished it. Sanditon on Reflection tells the rest of the story as seen through the eyes of Jane Austen's heroine, a young woman by the name of Charlotte Heywood. My telling of Charlotte's story begins before Jane Austen's does in 1812 on a farm in a small English village named Willingden located between Hailsham and Eastbourne near the south coast of England. She lives there, with very limited access to the rest of the world, except through her books and dreams. She is the eldest daughter of a very large family headed by a country gentleman and his wife. One day in 1818, a happenstance on a ''very rough Lane" gains her a sojourn away from her village to Sanditon, a fishing village with aspirations of becoming a fashionable Sea Bathing Spa Town in Regency Era England. Thus begins Charlotte's journey to uncover the mystery of a secret kept. Will that secret harm or save her as she strives to find love and a life in a world new to her that is filled with intrigue, avarice and obsession?

Hosted by Tom Parker, the eccentric mastermind behind the scheme, and his wife, Charlotte finds herself right in the heart of Sanditon society, which includes Tom's brother Sidney Parker, "of about seven or eight and twenty" and "very good-looking." But is he what he seems and can she trust her instincts and her heart in this new world? The hazards of love and an intriguing mystery test Charlotte's character and conviction in ways she would never have imagined. That secret and the choices she must make in a Regency world filled with intrigue, avarice and obsession will shake Charlotte to the core as she faces challenges to know herself and her past as she looks to find love and that all important HEA.

Something is rotten in the state of New Hampshire.
Retired investigator William Westfall, an Englishman residing in Gloucester, Massachusetts, receives a telegram from the U.S. government requesting his aid in an investigation of a recent string of disappearances.
A long-time friend, Professor Daniel Jefferies of Boston University, delivers the government request.
The investigation leads both men to several sites in New England, but because of the terrible weather conditions, their search will not be easy. Complicating things is that the perpetrator seems to be inhuman! This leads both men to question their beliefs and wonder if they can Catch the Devil.
The story ends at the weather observatory on Mount Washington, New Hampshire, one of the most dramatic weather spots in the country.

Retired from the construction management field, d.b.thomas lives with his wife Cindy in Chippewa, Pennsylvania near his birthplace. "Five years ago, I had a stroke which affected my left side. The story was finished but not edited. The book was on hold. My wife knew I really wanted this book published, so she edited the book." This is his second book.
