Malba Tahan o Júlio Cesar de Mello e Souza fue el más célebre profesor de Matemática y escritor de cuentos árabes del Brasil. Con 60 años de magisterio, profesor creativo y conferencista de increíble elocuencia, su sabiduría excepcional sigue influenciando hasta hoy a generaciones de educadores, y es considerado el precursor de una nueva pedagogía para la enseñanza de la Matemática. Fue el “inventor” de una forma de enseñar donde la imaginación y la ciencia caminan juntas en la construcción del conocimiento. El Instituto Malba Tahan – IMT, entidad sin fines lucrativos, se dedica a promover el legado intelectual, moral y artístico del ilustre educador y escritor brasilero. Instalado en un inmueble cercano a la plaza principal de Queluz, el IMT es el responsable de la conservación y preservación del acerbo reunido por el escritor, que se encuentra temporalmente fuera del alcance del público en general. Constituido en septiembre de 2004, el IMT ofrece una pequeña exposición sobre Malba Tahan a grupos escolares, así como también provee información a investigadores de distintos institutos de enseñanza.
