Exprésate employs instructional and multisensorial learning techniques that connect students to Spanish-speaking countries, their arts, culture and people, while teaching them to converse in Spanish. Students learning Spanish with Exprésate s new curriculum will be immersed in Spanish culture and real-life stories, making instruction and practice more meaningful and effective. Every chapter of Exprésate addresses three modes of communication identified by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL): presentational, interpretive, and interpersonal. Emphasis on these standards helps students hone their speaking skills and develop a greater grasp of the Spanish language. In addition, each Comunicacion activity in the text corresponds to expanded suggestions in the Teacher's Edition of the curriculum. Grammar is also emphasized in a new way; in Expresate, Spanish grammar is presented along with English grammar rules. These comparisons give students a stronger foundation for learning the language and its structure. The teacher support materials developed by Holt save teachers implementation time and address diversity in the classroom. Expresate lesson plans are set up for 50 or 90-minute classes and include pacing guides for block schedules or traditional schedules. Success strategies give teachers ideas for working in groups or with individual students. The teacher guide also includes strategies for differentiating instruction for advanced or special-needs learners, independent study, and Advanced Placement Exam preparation.
