The compiler extracted the names in this Simmern Kreis/Rhineland-Falz booklet from two articles published in Germany in 1935 and 1938. In this work, the author has arranged the names of several thousand immigrants according to hometown of origin and, thereunder, by the county of destination. In most cases, we learn the emigrant's name, year emigrated, occupation, date of birth, and frequently, the city or state of destination.

From Bremen to America in 1850: Fourteen Emigrant Ship Lists (German American Genealogical Research Monograph Number 22)

The names in this booklet were extracted from a two-volume study written in German by Wilhelm Iwan in 1943. About 7,500 Lutherans are named, with the majority bound for the U.S., many with the specific destination of Texas. The immigrants are arranged chronologically and thereunder by their town/province of origin in Prussia. In most instances, we find the passenger's name, age, occupation, and the maiden names of female passengers.

Germany immigration authority, Clifford Neal Smith spent a number of years ferreting out surrogate passenger information from the periodical literature. In one instance, Mr. Smith transcribed the genealogical contents, published between 1869 and 1877, of Volumes 1 through 9 of Der Deutsche Pioniere, a monthly magazine issued by the Deutsche Pioniereverein (Union of German Pioneers) founded in Cincinnati, Ohio. Mr. Smith provides the following particulars on each German-American pioneer found in that periodical: name, place of origin in Germany, town or county of residence, reference to the original source, and biographical data provided in the original notice. While most of the early entries pertain to Germanic inhabitants of Ohio, later issues of Der Deutsche Pioniere refer to deceased persons living in Kentucky and neighboring states.

This book is based on the two surviving registers of passports issued by the departmental government between 1837 and 1844 for travel outside of France. The author has culled nearly 2,000 records from the registers for persons whose destination was the U.S. Also included is a select group of emigrants whose destination was given as Hamburg or London, cities which often were intermediate destinations in unreported emigration to America. Each entry gives the name of the emigrant, age, place of birth, places of residence and destination, profession, accompanying family members, and the entry number and date from the passport register.
