<p>The commentary in this book is high level, Tovey-level. Excellent, insightful commentary by R. Simpson, himself a composer. published in 1970 by the BBC as part of a series of brief guides to classical music. Don't let this book's brevity keep you from it - it has much more detail and insight into Beethoven's symphonies than some larger and/or more recent books on the subject. Book is much deeper than expected.</p>
