<p>This book reveals much new information concerning the rediscovery of the 'Tanagras.' It examines the types of graves in which the figurines were found, and establishes a stylistic chronology. The author also explores the purposes for which they may have been made, the way in which they were modeled or moulded, and then painted, the many kinds of figurines and what they represent. All were found in graves but it is likely it is likely that there would have been similar figures in private houses and sanctuaries. There are 214 black and white illustrations and 8 pages of colour.</p>
