Waiting for Jesus in a Can't Wait World is an Amazing New Concept for our "electronically connected" teens, family and friends. There are two exciting features in this Advent book. Each day, beginning November 30, 2014, following the devotion, there is a Share and a Thought Prompt. These two "brain-rattlers" provide food to feast on each day, leading up to Christmas, rather than a steady diet of "gimme." 1: Shares: (text, tweet, post to FB, blogs, Pinterest, or anywhere.) The plan: to bring Jesus Christ into the daily thoughts of our family and friends. Rather than thinking about the presents they will get or give on Christmas Day, they will focus on the presence of God, through the Share that you will text, email, or post to them. 2: Thinking About Jesus Thought Prompts: Also: Fun, Thought Prompts can be posted, emailed and/or texted, so our family and friends can brainstorm about ideas that will fill them with Jesus as they wait for Christmas. When they get home, you can discuss the Prompt around the supper table or in a moment together. The Devotion is based on scripture and completed with a prayer, using Prayer Therapy, as taught in the book, the Prayer Therapy of Jesus. Prayer Therapy is praying specifically, as Jesus taught us, so God can answer specifically.

When I researched my distant ancestors and my DNA results came in, I discovered ninety 5th great-grandparents. On my direct paternal line was Thomas Christopher "Sobering Wind" Gowen (black, white, and part Cherokee). I was shocked and amazed. How could that be? I had reddish/blond hair, freckles, and blue eyes. 
Researching Thomas, I discovered my 7th great-grandfather, John Gowen. He was among the first twenty to thirty Africans to come to the British Colonial American settlement of Jamestown, Virginia, in 1619, ten years before the Pilgrims landed. What he did with his life as a fourteen-year-old, black, indentured servant, alone in an unchartered new world, who became one of the first freed black men in North America, was amazing. 
I've included prompts in A Man of Significance to help you learn about one of your ancestors. You can take joy in the distant one you find, erase disappointments of the past, and embrace love. You may be surprised by what you find and enjoy the basic truth that family is everything. 
You must hear John Gowen's story. He was truly a man of significance. This narrative nonfiction book is for everyone.
