This catalogue features the work of artist Domenico Bianchi and an homage to the belated Mario Merz, specifically created for the exhibition in the city of Bari. A series of images reproduces the most important experiences by Bianchi (in indoor space), and Merz (in outdoor locations). Merz's work consists of a large igloo that stands on a silver painted cervo in the middle of the Renaissance Courtyard of the Castello Svevo. Inside the castle, along a 20-meter-long wall is a cross-shaped display of eleven paintings made by Bianchi out of wood, white gold, wax, and fiberglass as a tribute to and spiritual view of Merz's life and work.

German photographer Candida Höfer makes large-format photographs of empty interiors and social spaces that capture the "psychology of social architecture." In this small volume, her photographs of libraries maintain their monumental feel. They are sober and restrained, disturbed by neither visitors nor users, though Höfer forgoes any staging of the locations. As Michael Kimmelman writes in The New York Times, "Ms. Höfer is a straight photographer whose humanity and improvisatory spirit come across if we are patient enough to appreciate the serendipity of her light, the subtlety of her color and the quiet, melancholy pleasure she seems to take in finding, as if almost by chance, poetry in institutional form." Born in 1944, German photographer Candida Höfer is a former student of Bernd and Hilla Becher's at the Dusseldorf Art Academy. Her work was recently seen at a one-person show at the ICA Philadelphia.

Up-and-coming designer Konstantin Grcic works with everyday objects--everyday objects that just happen to have belonged to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. These apparently banal objects--which lost their importance and were forgotten after Goethe's death over 150 years ago--are now reinterpreted by Grcic, the artist whom Achille Castiglioni considers his ''spiritual heir.'' Among the objects is a pair of the great writer's boots, one of his belts, several buttons, a glove and various precious stones. Grcic juxtaposes these objects with his own creations: ashtrays, washbasins, pens and hangers. Grcic is also responsible for the graphic design of this volume, making it a truly unique document.
