To establish the sequence of publication and study variations among first and later editions, scholars need to consult and compare as many copies as possible.This catalogue presents detailed descriptions of the more than 288 items in the University of Chicago Library's collection of early Chopin. Entries include transcriptions of title pages (thirty-one are reproduced in facsimile); notes on pagination and method of printing; main elements of contents; and information on dates and printing or publishing history.

This catalogue of the University of Chicago Library's Chopin Collection provides detailed descriptions of over 400 first and early editions of musical works by Chopin—information important to scholars and bibliographers, given that Chopin's works were often published concurrently in several countries with variant texts.
