Borrowing from the actual images found at Borobudur in Jogjakarta, Pineda narrates Gopal's story in 120 successive images, moving from his early apprenticeship, his marriage to two women, the wife of his heart, and the keeper of his household, to the privations of his life in exile, and the terrible price extracted for his pride. Shaping the splendor of a new world with his chisel, blow by blow, just as painstakingly, he learns the meaning of love.
