THURBER'S DOGS was commissioned for the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra of Columbus & Thurber House to commemorate the 100th birthday of author James Thurber. Completed on August 13, 1994, this is the world premiere recording. VOICES FROM THE GALLERY - an eleven-section work for narrator & chamber orchestra. Hard-back book contains color plates of the art. In VOICES FROM THE GALLERY, eleven works of art 'speak' to their audience for the first time in words & music. That they've always had the power to do so is suggested by the title of Andre' Malraux's remarkable book of art history, entitled The Voices of Silence. The collaboration between composer & librettist transforms sight into sound, & too allows the audience to 'see' with the ear's 'eye'. Nothing the eleven works can say' in this piece will reduce their stature. Something they do 'say' may cause us to look at them again, & this time - perhaps for the first time - 'hear' the music of vision.</p>
