Two boys venture into the space/time continuum to rescue a prized first edition Superman comic. Twelve-year-old Brian will never forget the day, when he was seven, that he accidentally spilt a cup of punch on his fatherâs valuable copy of a Superman #1 comic book from 1939. He is certain that his cheerful, joking father secretly despises him for ruining this prized possession. Like his father, Brian collects comic books, so it is not surprising when Mr. Somerset, the owner of the General Store, gives one to Brian. What is surprising, however, is that the comic book is full of blank panels and that a metal ring falls into Brianâs lap. Brian thinks that there must be some kind of mistake. Why would anyone want to buy a blank comic book? Paul, Brianâs best friend, activates the ring, sets the date to 75 million B.C., and then presses a button labeled âTimequest.â The boys suddenly find themselves in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean battling a prehistoric beast. This wet adventure becomes the first of many âTimequestsâ â both to the past and to the future. During their travels, they escape from 1939 to find themselves in the prehistoric past where they get caught in a battle between a mastodon and a pack of dire wolves. They warp away just in time, but one problem leads to another. When they finally make their way back home they find that though they have been changed by their adventures, home is comfortably the same â¦ or is it? I pay the lady and race back home, Squeaky begging me the whole time to tell him what I bought. Mom gives me a record-breaking hug. I sell it for a million dollars, and Mom and I retire to Florida and swim in blue water with brightly colored fish."  Cooper and his mom run an antique business out of the old barn next to their house. Actually, Cooper does most of the work, since his mom tends to get lost in her own thoughts. He rides his bike, Squeaky, to garage sales looking for treasures, sets the resale prices, and orders the groceries. There's never much money left after he pays the electric bill, and he dreams of finding something spectacular that would make life easier--but really, he and his mom are doing okay. At least he's better at sniffing out antiques than Mr. Shepherd, the director of the historical museum, who doesn't have Cooper's knack for getting into garage sales early.    Then one day Cooper comes home with a metal detector from his garage sale hunts. He begins searching his backyard, and what he finds there sends him on a historical adventure and journey of self-discovery that will make this summer unforgettable.

But when a string of misadventures threatens to alter their life back at home forever, Brian realizes that the comic doesn't matter as much as getting back to his mom and dad.
