The author was introduced to Sam while working as a volunteer for the Adirondack Centennial Railroad during the summer of 1992. One day, in the small gift shop at Thendara Station, Sam was placed before her on the counter with a comment, "Nancy, I would like you to meet Sam." This is Sam's story.
