(Giverny)\nAttroupement\nL'eau claire de la rivière se colore de rose, par petits filets, comme l'éphémère teinte pastel d'un jet d'eau dans lequel on rince un pinceau. 
- Non, Neptune ! 
Au fil du courant, la couleur se dilue, s'accroche au vert des herbes folles qui pendent des berges, à l'ocre des racines des peupliers, des saules. Un subtil dégradé délavé... 
J'aime assez. 
Sauf que le rouge ne vient pas d'une palette qu'un peintre aurait nettoyée dans la rivière, mais du crâne défoncé de Jérôme Morval. Salement défoncé, même. Le sang s'échappe d'une profonde entaille dans le haut de son crâne, nette, bien propre, lavée par le ru de l'Epte dans lequel sa tête est plongée. 
Mon berger allemand s'approche, renifle. Je crie à nouveau, plus fermement cette fois : 
- Non, Neptune ! Recule ! 
Je me doute qu'ils ne vont pas tarder à trouver le cadavre. Même s'il n'est que 6 heures du matin, un promeneur va sans doute passer, ou bien un peintre, un type qui fait son jogging, un ramasseur d'escargots... un passant, qui va tomber sur ce corps. 
Je prends garde à ne pas m'avancer davantage. Je m'appuie sur ma canne. La terre devant moi est boueuse, il a beaucoup plu ces derniers jours, les bords du ru sont meubles. A quatre-vingt-quatre ans, je n'ai plus vraiment l'âge de jouer les naïades, même dans un ruisseau de rien du tout, de moins d'un mètre de large, dont la moitié du débit est détournée pour alimenter le bassin des jardins de Monet. D'ailleurs, il paraît que ce n'est plus le cas, qu'il existe un forage souterrain pour alimenter l'étang aux Nymphéas, maintenant. 
- Allez, Neptune. On continue. 
Je lève ma canne vers lui comme pour éviter qu'il ne colle sa truffe dans le trou béant de la veste grise de Jérôme Morval. La seconde plaie. Plein coeur. 
- Bouge ! On ne va pas traîner là. 
Je regarde une dernière fois le lavoir, juste en face, et je continue le long du chemin. Rien à dire, il est impeccablement entretenu. Les arbres les plus envahissants ont été sciés à la base. Les talus sont désherbés. Il faut dire, quelques milliers de touristes le fréquentent chaque jour, ce chemin. On y passerait une poussette, un handicapé en fauteuil, une vieille avec une canne. Moi !
