Pada 1991, dia kembali ke Oregon untuk menikah dengan Martha, dan mengajar Manajemen Inovasi dan Kreativitas pada program MBA di Portland hingga 1998. Michael dan Martha kini tinggal di rumah batu di Oregon bersama kucing mereka, Lionel.
