<p>Looks at the formulation, implementation, and application of the dual boundary element method to three-dimensional crack problems in linear elastic fracture mechanics. To overcome the ill-conditioning problems associated with the conventional boundary element (BEM), the author has applied the displacement boundary integral equation to one of the crack surfaces, and the traction boundary integral equation to the other.
