Other people all wish to benefit themselves. I don't wish to benefit myself. If there is something that I can do to benefit living beings, I want to do it. even if I have to die. That is how my thinking differs from that of others. As for my conduct, most people do not understand my actions, nor do I explain myself to them. As for my way of doing things, I do the things that no one else wants to do. For example, when left the home-life and became a Shramanera (novice monk), I cleaned out the pit toilets and spittoons and swept the floors I did all of the chores that other people didn't like to do. All of you should know that I am different from intelligent and wise people in my thinking, conduct, and way of doing things. Compared to fools, there is no one more stupid than I am.

Chapter Forty Entering the Inconceivable State of Liberation by Means of the Practices and Vows of Samantabhadra Bodhisattva is considered one of the most important sacred texts in Mahayana Buddhism because it describes the ten great practices and vows that all Bodhisattvas without exception cultivate in order to become Buddhas. This chapter is also the culmination of the amazing spiritual quest of the youth Good Wealth (Sudhana), who had visited 53 "good friends" or good enlightened teachers, each of whom represented a progressively higher level of enlightenment on the path to becoming a Buddha. In the words of the Bodhisattva, "If there are living beings who hear or have faith in these great king of vows, or receive, uphold, read, recite from memory, or extensively explain them for others, all the merit and virtue that they obtain can only be known by the Buddhas and by no one else."

The Wonderful Dharma Lotus S?tra is one of the major Buddhist texts of East Asia.
