"Full color coverage of a system as old and as large as the C&NW is impractical, if not impossible; our first consideration is that the quality of the color image be of high quality, to record the appearance of representative units over the time span when amateur color photography was technically feasible. Thus we have no images from the pre-War period, or even from the late 1940s.
