There's a place inside us that is cloaked in darkness, rubbed raw with silence. It's a shadow wrapped in a shadow and it screams, but it screams in harsh whispers. This collection explores the blackness within, the gritty underground that hides inside memories and cowers just outside fear. The poems, paired with illustrations from Matthias Matthies work in sync to create a collage of blunt sexuality, masochistic, and sometimes sadistic recollections of love, reflection, and self-exploration. Lindemann paints pictures with his poems, a slave to the vulnerability and sexuality that drives mankind. His words themselves are body modifications that settle on readers, piercing then slowly penetrating and pumping his audience full with a mix of pleasure and pain. A combination of longing, emotional depth, and bestial intuition, these pieces evoke an innate nature to seek pleasure, to ask for forgiveness, to instill blame. On Quiet Nights pulls back the curtains at night and asks readers to think about who they are. Gedichte von Till Lindemann, dem Sänger der Band »Rammstein« Bekannt ist Till Lindemann vor allem als Sänger (und Texter) der Band »Rammstein«. Weniger bekannt ist, dass er unabhängig davon seit über 20 Jahren Lyrik schreibt – Gedichte, von denen zwar einige zu Songs geworden sind, die aber als Gedichte ihr ganz eigenes Leben haben. Höchst erstaunlich klingen diese oft fast beiläufig daherkommenden, dabei aber rhythmisch und musikalisch genauestens gebauten Texte, in denen ein abgründiges, reizbares, verletzliches lyrisches Ich in eine intime Zwiesprache mit dem Leser tritt. Darunter sind Gedichte, die – wie der Herausgeber Alexander Gorkow schreibt – »klingen wie in kalten Nächten aus dem Eis gekratzt«, aber auch solche voller Wehmut, Sehnsucht und Gefühlsinnigkeit. Trotz des zeitgenössischen Tons stellen sich sofort Assoziationen zur Lyrik der deutschen Romantik und des Expressionismus ein, auch zu Gottfried Benn und Bertolt Brecht. Die Motive umkreisen die Abgründe der Existenz, den Hunger des Begehrens, den Körper, den Schmerz, die Lust, die Komik und Tragik der Kommunikation, die Einsamkeit und Gewalt. Herausgegeben und mit einem Vorwort versehen wird der Band von Alexander Gorkow, der 2012 für seine große Reportage über die US-Tournee von »Rammstein« im Magazin der Süddeutschen Zeitung den deutschen Reporterpreis erhielt. Der Band erhält neben den Gedichten als Illustrationen eine Reihe von Schwarzweiß-Zeichnungen des Künstlers Matthias Matthies.
