3rd Edition: The first edition of The Montana Entrepreneur's Guide was published in 1990. A major strength of the book was its focus on the state of Montana and the information provided to readers specific to the state. In order to sustain those benefits, we decided to revise the book and include up-to-date information that would help Montana entrepreneurs start and build successful ventures. The second edition in 1995 was the result of those efforts. The Montana business environment is changing quickly. In order to once again stay current, this 3rd edition was completed in 1999. We have included new programs, examples, legislative changes, and resource descriptions. Updated and expanded information on patents and trademarks was added to Chapter 3. New legal issues were added to Chapter 5 and further personnel material was included in Chapter 8. With the increasing popularity of LLC's and LLP's as legal entities, Chapter 5 was expanded to include descrptions of them. New financing options and programs are described in Chapter 7. Chapter 14 deals with harvesting a business and includes information on new approaches to harvesting strategies. Chapter 12, Exporting, is a brand new chapter. More and more Montana companies are expanding into foreign countries and so we believe the information in this chapter is relevant to many Montana entrepreneurs. The financial spreadsheet included with the Montana Entrepreneur's Guide has been completely revised. It now allows for 5-year forecasts of breakeven, income statement, cash flow, and balance analysis, and the statements are now more highly integrated.
