Al inicio de Reyes, el reinado de Salomón había traído paz, seguridad, un próspero intercambio comercial de ámbito internacional y un magnífico centro de culto. En contraste, al final de Reyes, el pueblo y su rey estaban en el exilio y Jerusalén y el templo estaban en ruinas. ¿Cómo puede ser válida en la actualidad una historia de planes frustrados, contada por un pueblo que ha sido derrotado? ¿Cómo puede equiparnos para ‘toda obra buena’ esta parte de las Escrituras? Reyes puede ser leído simplemente como la crónica de los pecados de algunos monarcas y del pueblo; pero en realidad, es un escrito que va más allá del fallo humano y el juicio divino. Los atisbos de esperanza, la persistencia de los propósitos de Dios y la reacción por parte del pueblo son realidades innegables. Este es un libro capital en el conjunto de la Biblia para recordarnos que Dios está presente en todos y cada uno de los aspectos de la vida, llevando a cabo su misión. De hecho, el día a día es el terreno en el que se nos insta, como pueblo de Dios, a poner en práctica nuestra adoración y a ejercitar la confianza y la obediencia.
