Published on he occasion of the 150th anniversary of its founding, this unprecedented book traces the hospital s beginnings in downtown Honolulu, establishment on the dry plain below the hill known as Punchbowl, and evolvement into the modern medical center it is today. The book also includes information on the implementation of Western medical advances in Hawai'i, and the impact of the decimation of the Hawaiian people with regard to immigration from abroad. The text by Queen's historian Jason Y. Kimura and photographs from the hospital archives capture the essence of how Hawai i has benefited from the vision of King Kamehameha IV and Queen Emma.</p>
