This 1973 Edition of Frederic Augustus James's Civil War Diary, is a reproduction of the private journal of Frederic Augustus James of Boston, which provides an account of life and death in the Confederate military prisons during the Civil War. A small portion of the original is herein reproduced, along with the complete text set in type. Along with this text, the editor has supplied background information: introductory essay, annotation of the Journal itself, appendix supplying relevant documents about the prison conditions, and the fates of some of the people who are mentioned by James in the journal. Also included are a number of contemporary photographs and drawings, depicting life on board ship during the Civil War, as well as life-and death-, in the prison camps.
