This volume consists of 58 papers concerned with cognition in individual and social contexts. It is organized into eight parts, each containing papers that reflect current concerns of that area. The diversity of areas illustrates the degree to which cognitive psychology has spread beyond its original boundaries, and the important links that cognitive psychologists are forging with other areas. Overall, several chapters discuss the nature of consciousness, and others consider the link between theory and methodology; other chapters argue the relevance of computational models to cognitive processing, and others highlight the relevance of individual differences in aspects of cognition.

Knowledge about organizations and the behaviour of those within them continues to expand at a rapid rate. The major purpose of this volume of the Proceedings is to provide the reader with a review of some of the recent developments in the area of industrial and organizational psychology. The papers cover a variety of aspects of organization. There are some which address matters of direct relevance to those who have not yet entered the workforce - for example the relationship between secondary school subject choice and occupational choice, and longitudinal studies of school-leavers. Other papers are directed to the other extreme of the work life - unemployment and early retirement.

<p>The contributions in this volume reflect the high level of research currently under way in many parts of the world in the area of developmental psychology, with ten countries from five continents represented in the book. The volume shows the extent to which theorizing and research is currently focused on different portions of the life span.  The 40 chapters in this book provide a broad and complementary coverage of many domains of contemporary psychological development from infancy to senescence. Results of several major longitudinal studies complement the cross-sectional ones. Consistent with the field, much of the book pertains to social, cognitive and emotional development during the beginning of the life span. The remaining chapters demonstrate that development continues well beyond childhood where Havighurst's notion of life tasks provides cohesion on such topics as: Adolescent identity, inter-generational relations, options in early adulthood concerning career and family development, cognitive ageing and its interface with everyday functioning. Life span themes of the contextual, multidimensional, multidirectional and plastic nature of development are pervasive.</p>

The 49 papers in this volume originate from many different parts of the world and were selected to represent the wide range of contributions dealing with the nature, assessment, prevention and treatment of psychological dysfunction. The latest work by leading international researchers in clinical and abnormal psychology is described in this volume. There is a broad coverage of clinical areas. The papers are organised into six sections based on the type of dysfunction. The first section is concerned with emotional disorders, including papers which discuss the advances in the definition and treatment of specific disorders within general categories such as anxiety, stress and depression, but which also acknowledge the communality between these emotional systems. The papers in the second section deal with deficits in self-regulation, such as alcohol abuse, smoking and eating disorders. One of the many themes linking analysis of these "appetitive" disturbances is the notion of loss of control, and its relation to long-term regulation of intake.
